Importance of Military to Pierce County
Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) is the largest employer by far in Pierce County. Its presence both in Pierce County and in the state of Washington impacts the regional economy and workforce in fundamental ways. WorkForce Central partners with JBLM to offer career opportunities not just to transitioning service members and veterans, but also to their families, with a goal to retain them in our regional economy even once their service has ended.
Camo2Commerce: A commitment to ensure transitioning service members from Joint Base Lewis McChord are supported by training and career development services to ensure them a civilian job. Through one-on-one career coaching and job placement services, the partners, WorkForce Central and Pacific Mountain Workforce Development Council, enable the transitioning service member to seamlessly shift into the civilian workforce and specifically into high demand career opportunities.

Economic/Workforce Development Integration: Provides a customized service to businesses looking to locate in Pierce County. This service includes information about the local labor market, available training funds and incentives and comprehensive recruiting and pre-employment services to ensure employers have the qualified workers they require.
Health Care Career Coaching: Helps incumbent healthcare employees at partner facilities receive training required for advancement into high-demand higher wage healthcare careers. Coaches provide on-site specialized career services including financial aid resources, in-depth vocational guidance and career assessment resources.
Manufacturing Academy: A pre-employment training and recruitment program developed by and for manufacturing employers to prepare workers for advanced manufacturing careers. This certified pre-apprenticeship program integrates business, apprenticeship and technical college education to produce graduates with general manufacturing and professional skills employers identify as essential to their workplace.
Tacoma-Pierce County Growth Partnership: A partnership of over 30 government, community and education organizations that have come together to cultivate a collaborative effort to achieve comprehensive development goals in Pierce County and to identify sustainable funding opportunities for those goals.
