Tacoma, Wash. – Approximately 300 people attended a hiring event for VersaCold Logistics, one of the largest cold storage companies in the world, held at the WorkForce Central Business Connection’s Lakewood location on Friday, May 21, and Saturday, May 22.
VersaCold Logistics was pleased with the results of the hiring event.
“Well it was fantastic! We got to know the community; we got to know a lot of the workers right here at WorkForce Central; they did an outstanding job,” said Cecilia Rengle, the Regional Human Resources Manager for VersaCold Logistics’ Western Region. “We are very excited, very pleased with our results, and we have a great pool of candidates we realize that we can hire from. Everything was very efficient, everything was very organized, a lot of positive attitudes everywhere, which is exactly the kind of attitude we embrace at VersaCold.”
Through the Business Connection’s processes, the group of 300 was narrowed down to the qualified individuals; 66 people were interviewed for the open warehouse positions as a result. Fifteen of the 66 were hired for the warehouse positions, and six additional people were identified and hired for office positions.
The applicants were also satisfied with the event.
“The hiring event was good,” Andrew Barham, one of the applicants, said. “It was pretty organized, it was smooth. I was in and pretty much out. Everybody was polite and nice. It was great; it was a good experience actually.”
The Business Connection was happy to be able to partner with VersaCold through this event to assist them in their goal of becoming operational by July 15.
“Everything that we needed was fulfilled,” Tony Caetano, the General Manager of VersaCold Tacoma, said. “We feel like we got quality people. We didn’t settle for anybody. We don’t have just bodies applying for the jobs. Through the screening process, the evaluation, very, very confident that through the help of our partnership with WorkForce Central that we got quality people who are going to help us grow this business.”
