“During these challenging economic times we knew we’d have a lot of candidates but not the capability to screen all of them as WorkForce did,” said Baldwin.

Tacoma, Wash. – Alaska Commercial Company, which operates 30 AC Value Centers, offering both food and non-food products to remote villages throughout Alaska, has successfully settled a warehouse location in Pierce County at the Port of Tacoma, with the assistance of the WorkForce Central Business Connection. Their settling in the area brought jobs to 25 Pierce County people, and they may look to hire more in the future.

Why did they choose Pierce County?

“It really came down to logistics,” said Basco Baldwin, VP of Human Resources for The North West Company (International) Inc, the parent company of Alaska Commercial Company. “Our biggest supplier is located in Pierce County and the warehouse that we chose is close to the docks. Being close to both of these entities was an important factor in our final decision to locate in Pierce County.”

While Alaska Commercial was negotiating for the lease at the Port, their realtor mentioned the WorkForce Central Business Connection, which they called to learn more about.

“During these challenging economic times we knew we’d have a lot of candidates but not the capability to screen all of them as WorkForce did,” said Baldwin.

Alaska Commercial made use of the Business Connection’s resume pre-screening, phone screen, background check and reference check services.

“We are extremely satisfied with the services provided. Dan Grisham, Julie Sandstede and Beth Arrisi were an integral part of our hiring process.  Their assistance, patience and insight were invaluable to our successful hiring of a great staff,” Baldwin said. “This is a great service to employers and I would recommend this program to anyone wishing to hire worker’s in Pierce County.”
