Learn to Earn

Three organizations partner to bring unique learning opportunity to Pierce County youth

Posted: Apr 12, 2010

Tacoma, Wash. – WorkForce Central, Resources for Education and Career Help (REACH) and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber present “Learn to Earn Day,” on Friday, April 23, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. REACH will host the event at the Milgard Work Opportunity Center, 714 S. 27th St., Tacoma, 98409.

“WorkForce Central is pleased to be a sponsor of ‘Learn to Earn’ day, which will allow our Pierce County youth to discover, get involved with and understand what it takes to be successful in the many career opportunities available to them,” Linda Nguyen, CEO of WorkForce Central, said.

Meant as a warm-up to Goodwill’s Job Fair in May, the “Learn to Earn” Career Resource Fair provides a bridge for disadvantaged youth (ages 16-24) to understand what it takes to enter and succeed in a particular field.

The event features speakers that represent seven broad sectors of industry:
• Service Industry
• Green Jobs/Skilled Trades
• Law Enforcement/Emergency Responders
• Entrepreneurs
• Teaching
• Healthcare
• Military/Government Work

There will be one-hour sessions, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., held in seven industry-designated conference rooms. Designed so participants can explore up to seven different areas of industry, the goal is to instill feelings of excitement and passion for a potential career direction.

There will be light refreshments and door prizes, and play care will be available for children 2-8 years of age.
